The former Canadian government went through a phase where they claimed that unreported crime was getting out of hand and so we needed more tough-on-crime legislation.
So if the administration is sufficiently shameless (check!), and they have some kind of axe to grind (check!), then yes, it’s the sort of thing that could happen…

To me she actually looks a bit ill, and tired, and older than she’s trying to look. I’ve seen a few other women like that, working the streets. [I’m not making any suggestion other than that she doesn’t actually seem to enjoy working for Trump very much.]
