Bra holster misfire kills Michigan Republican delegate

Who’s calling for a ban on guns? Last I heard the US couldn’t get the most basic, common sense legislation for background checks or a national gun register into law. A ban on guns? Yeah. Right.

I think this is the most important thing ever said about about human nature. One of the major arguments of certain gun owners seems to be that when a situation like this comes up, their immediate response is “Well, I’d never to that.” And then they break everything down into “Good gun owners” and “Bad gun owners” while completely ignoring the fact that if nothing had happened to that woman she would have still be considered a “Good gun owner”, until suddenly in a muzzle flash, she isn’t.

Under what circumstances were those people shot? And did they have guns of their own? What’s the population of your city? Who were the people who were shot? Why were they shot? Who were they shot by? How many of them were accidental? How many were suicides?

All of these things matter quite a bit. Situations where people are shot by random stranger for really no reason, in their homes or on the street are incredibly rare. They happen and the news likes them quite a lot, but its incredibly unlikely to actually happen to you. Expecting that you could be prepared for something like that is wishful thinking. Acting like you need to be prepared for it at any moment is madness. Its also quite dangerous thing to consider as the primary motivator for owning a gun or a determining factor in the way you handle and store guns.

The person who is most likely to shoot you is you. After that its your significant other. If I ran around all the time talking about, planning for, and acquiring/handling fire arms toe ensure I could shoot my wife before she shoots me you’d look at me pretty funny. Though I don’t have a wife. So I’m unsure who to shoot now.

I see.
You are doing it wrong.

Most of the people shot were involved in crime. Some were armed, most not. Most were involved in the street based pharmaceutical trade. Some though, were completely innocent people. I have personally had to go for a firearm in self-defense, its rare, but if you need it, best to have it. I would definitely have been at least severely beaten if I didn’t have it. Three of them, all younger and stronger than me.

If we want to disarm the populace, we need a serious discussion in the US, I’m for a dialogue. The supreme court has ruled the 2nd ammendment means the personal right to have a firearm. If we want to repeal that, so be it, but it will take a consensus.

It was only a part of an overall bigger picture. A gun in a safer holster would not have this outcome, a safety-equipped gun in the same holster as well.

Here, have a useful concept.

Undies…?! Thought it was in her bap-cap…? Had it been in her undies, she’d probably still be breathing had it been in her cunticle. M

Being pedantic. Because…? Because.

FYI - All gun purchases through an FFL - which accounts for most gun purchases - go through a background check.

Private sales in the same state, face to face, don’t require it, though it is against the law to sell to someone not legally able to buy one (ie under aged or a felon). Private sales across state lines require an FFL transfer with the check. For example if you buy a pistol from a private seller in a different state they ship it to your local FFL and you still have to fill out the forms to get it.

Some people act like there aren’t a ton of gun laws out there already. Gone are the days of ordering what you want and having it show up in the mail with your Playboy magazine.

So if I wanted to buy a gun in the US and wanted to skip the background check, it would be difficult for me to find a loophole, right? Like I couldn’t just get one at a gun show, for instance.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to call for a ban on stupid…?

“We need a war on stoopid and a war on the CAUSES of stoopid!”

Guns show mainly have licensed dealers selling in them. So for a most of those sales yes you would still have to go through a background check.

The exception would be someone who bought a table to sell off some of their private collection, or the guy running the table selling beef jerky has a private gun for sale. You may also find someone attending show, a private person, with a rifle slung on their back and a sign on it for sale.

Of course if the person wanting to buy your gun is acting shady as fuck, you are under no obligation to sell. I know some people want to see a CCW license, which shows they aren’t a felon, or at least write down a drivers license number. Shady people don’t have those.

But if you look at the Department of Justice numbers from armed felon interviews you will see gun show purchases account for a very small percentage of where they got their guns. The top 3 was were stealing them, buying them on the black market, or directly through family or friends (which may or may not be a straw purchase).

Yes there is are always ways to get around any system in place. I don’t think cracking down further on private sales is going to curb any crime, as it appears criminals aren’t buying from honest citizens, but from people who know them and probably know they may or may not be up to any good.

Thanks, NRA…because loopholes you can drive a truck through make us safer. (Doesn’t help that ATF are incompetent boobs, though…makes for an easy target for gun fetishists.)

I love language, but still don’t get the British rhyming slang thing. I want to, but am baffled.

“Undies” = underwear. Last I checked bras were still part of that category.

Craigslist doesn’t allow weapons sales, though I am sure people still try to use it. People used to place ads in news papers. Facebook has sales groups now.

At any rate, I don’t see how any more legislation on private sales will stop any thing. If you got some tweaker looking guy giving you bad vibes and doesn’t want to show his ID, then you will probably tell him to move along.

If something like that DOESN’T bother you, then you probably aren’t going to listen to a law saying you can’t do a private face to face sale.

And again, look at the numbers, you’re going after the pin hole leak in the hose, when all the water is leaking out of the end.
