This is also a good reminder of the massive overlap between GamerGaters and alt-Right. It’s all the same bubbling cauldron of white male resentment and entitlement.

Racefail, Elevatorgate, Gamergate, Sadly Rabid Puppies, Frenkelitis, etc.
I’m not sure that the rise of fascism in online nerd communities was the “source” of it all, though.
There were plenty of offline pro-fascist things happening at the same time; war, rising authoritarianism, runaway corruption, late-stage capitalism, environmental collapse, etc.
