Man, this getting to be tricky. Do I listen to Geraldo Rivera or Joe Germanotta? So many “remind me who that is” endorsements to choose from!

Did he find his spine in Al Capone’s vault?

I am just hoping that enough of the moderate or actually Conservative Republicans who held their nose and voted in 2020, actually vote for Harris this once, or just stay home. Logically - Harris isn’t going to change the status quo that much. (probably). Unlike Trump who could dismantle any and all guardrails we have for keeping the US a Democratic Republic.

I still don’t understand how the polls are as close as they are. None of this feels like 2016 or 2020. I don’t see nearly the visible support. Way less yard signs. Most of his rallies are much smaller. Even the posts on social media seem less (though that could be my algorithm).

I guess we will see in a few weeks. Vote early if you can!

I hear ya. I’m assuming Trump supporters in mixed areas like where I live (Atlanta) are keeping quiet, because they know their guy is so hated, and while they still support him, they don’t want their neighbors to hate them as well. Like you, I just hope enough Republicans with brains or hearts or disgust for Trump will vote for Kamala to give her the win.

As for Geraldo, I appreciate his one vote, and the perhaps 2 other people whose votes he managed to sway with his endorsement.

One reason there are close polling numbers is the number of polls done by GOP sycophants on select populations, so that the twatwaffle comes out ahead. Most of the people polled are republicans, and older republicans at that. When you properly sort your sample, you can get the response you want every time! Polls of a wider public show an increasing lead for Harris. Not to give the “it must be a death match or everyone will ignore us!” media conglomerates a pass.

Yeah, there is definitely more of a social risk to putting up a Trump sign to “own the libs” no. At least around where I live.

I did go to a smaller town last weekend, Holt, MO, and while I did see one larger display, it still seemed relatively tame than 4 years ago.

I haven’t had a reason to drive out to the redder portions of GA recently, so I don’t know what I would find there. I assume there’s still a lot of tacit support for their god-king. I certainly haven’t seen people admitting to changes of heart in the red parts of my own extended friend-group, unfortunately. There’s an eerie silence, and I don’t know what it portends. In my more progressive neighborhood, I don’t see as many yard signs – for either side – as I did in 2020.

Agreed, but that message isn’t working as well as it should because a substantial portion of the population seems to hate the status quo so much that they’re ok with risking everything to change it. Latching on to Trump’s “what the hell do you have to lose?” message despite the answer clearly being “quite a lot, actually!” for nearly every demographic of voters.

I’ve heard that the Harris campaign isn’t emphasizing the “we’ve got to save democracy!” message all that much because “democracy” is a vague and ill-defined concept for some people, and the reaction sometimes is “well what’s democracy done for me anyway? Might as well try something different.” Emphasizing the loss of freedoms is apparently more effective than messages about democracy.

Yeah but - uh - removing all guard rails so you can deport anyone, control women’s bodies, oppress LGBTQ people, cement power into a one party system, control the courts, etc is a far far cry than upsetting the status quo by taxing the rich, medicare for all, decriminalize drugs, invest in non-fossil fuel energy, and put some checks on unmitigated capitalism.

I don’t mind “risking” upsetting the status quo - but only if that upset tilted a way that would make things better! (If you wondered if Trump might do that in 2016 as a wild card, you now know the answer to that is “no”.)

Yeah. I don’t know. I feel like the opening messaging was hitting a hell of a lot better than this Neoliberal / appeal to reasonable Conservatives. Yeah, sure, it’s great “reasonable” Republicans like Cheney or Geraldo are voting for Harris. Thanks. They shouldn’t be catering to them. They should be reaching out to independents and youth voters who want that actual status quo upset, not some handshake deal with conservatives to not fuck things up further. I guess this is to combat the talking points she is some radical Marxist - but anyone who believes that is so far gone there is no hope.

I swear to god, if they fumble this, it will be the most Democrat thing they have ever done.
