Capitol rioters lured and reported to FBI by women on dating app Bumble

Do you think the FBI doesn’t know who raided the Capitol?

Every news story about somebody getting arrested for the Capitol riot seems to include how they came to the feds’ attention – by posting videos of themselves, or telling a coworker who called the FBI tip line. But your cell phone identifies you and continually reports your location. And there’s a ton of video of the event, from both the participants and the Capitol’s many security cameras.

Facial-recognition software does poorly with people of color. But the mob was made up pretty much exclusively of our European-American (a.k.a. “Gringx”) brothers and sisters. Face masks also break facial recognition but, again, few problems there.

Do the feds really have to wait to be told who the rioters are? Or are they being cute? What we do know is that in previous cases where they used cell phones to track people, they went to considerable trouble to pretend they weren’t, using in particular a technique called “parallel construction”.
