Sounds like high gain, some distortion, and a tremolo pedal turned up pretty fast. Mix in a couple discordant notes and you got it!
where was this 20 years ago? if ever this effect was needed, it was for the Supernova song

I don’t think it’s even tremolo, just the natural interference pattern of two discordant, distorting notes.
Not bad, but it’s still got nothing on the nightstand.
