I know one or two friends with pet chickens (they eat the eggs) and I never thought about them much, but I have to say in practice they’re really charming little animals… who knew.

My parents had these smallish brown-with-yellow-spots chickens. They were very nice pets. Very smart and very social. They slept in a tree in the garden, and as soon as you entered the garden they came up to you. Two of them even came sit on your lap for scritches when you sat down. They could fly reasonably well (I’d say about 100m max distance) and would often hang around on the roof making fussy noises when there were visiting dogs.
Good memories.

I’ve seen how these marketing schemes work. The camera and mount come cheap, but the diapers for the chicken will cost $50 annually…
