If you or anyone else is interested in this topic, I recommend the book “Spillover” by David Quammen. Very interesting and informative take on zoonoses and spillover events including AIDS and the Ebola virus.

Unfortunately, it has taken a deadly virus for mankind to regard such a thing as animal right. This is rather unfortunate. However, while I sincerely hope that a medical resolution is reached on the coronavirus, I hope the rights of animals (in the wildlife and pets) will be well instituted and enforced in our various nations.
