One thing that has always bothered me about these large scale settlements is that it’s rare that the people wronged ever get properly compensated. The government which levies the fines usually gets theirs (and of course the lawyers), but not the actual damaged parties.

The other bothersome thing is that it seems rare that the people doing the wronging actually get harmed by the settlements, the companies never seem to go under, the CEOs don’t pay a personal price… Ooooh, the stock might lose 5% for a couple days.
