I was listening to Puddles Pity Party’s cover of Peter Gabriel’s Don’t Give Up and a line in the song, which I’ve heard many times, suddenly made me incredibly angry.
“For every job, so many men, so many men no one needs.”
This is how we’ve brainwashed ourselves, to be depressed that no rich person will give us meaning. And the the counterpart to that is we are told we can make our own meaning if we only try hard enough; ignoring that the people who have made things “for themselves” have land and money to make it with.
I’m never going to have any sense of self-worth, but boy is it enraging to think that other people are being taught not to!
