Congressperson Boebert refused to quit vaping near a pregnant woman

We smoked a joint at an early screening of Star Wars.
There were no complaints though.

I live in Denver - have for nearly 30 years. Smoking (and vaping) was banned indoors sometime around 2002. Pretty sure a state-wide law. Vaping has never been allowed indoors either. I’m actually surprised she even dared to go to a performance in this city, as she’d likely be heckled incessantly if people recognized her. Regardless, Boebert is a POS and acted entirely consistently with her lack of character. Pretty sure she pregamed this performance too. There’s a pretty thorough set of security footage of the whole affair.

Yeah, maybe 25 plus years ago. This doesn’t exist in Colorado now.

For the most part it has been illegal to smoke in a theater since forever, but in the old days, the concern was fire rather than second-hand smoke.

Back in the '80s I used to take a commuter train to work, and the smoking car was a nightmare. Smoking was pretty much banned in offices by then, so there were ton of nicotine addicts that were desperate for a fix after work. EVERYBODY on that car was smoking, you couldn’t see the far end because of all the smoke. I wasn’t the only person that would choose to stand in the non-smoking car rather than sit in the smoking car.

I really don’t think this is true. Here’s a story from the New York Times in 1976 on a movie theater chain voluntarily banning smoking. People used to smoke everywhere.

The guy she was with has allegedly been identified as a Democrat bar owner.

As for Boebert i sincerely hope this isn’t the last time she’s escorted out. I really hope she’s escorted out of office.

Ah, the New York Post. Definitely a reliable source. Also, their information seems to come from an equally biased source, the Daily Mail, which quoted a family member of his as saying, “It’s very surprising. I always thought Quinn was a cool guy and a Democrat. His parents would be horrified because they are definitely blue,” a source told the Daily Mail.” So there seems to be an assumption that he’s a Democrat because his parents are. That’s pretty iffy, based on the company he’s keeping.

I’m glad to hear this. Go, Denver!
I remember smoking in cinemas back in the 80’s.
Even though I still smoke (albeit not as much) I’m glad it’s banned most places now.
Stinky habit, like voting conservative.

what i loved about that was all the cigarettes you could save just by hanging out in the car.

I still give her 50/50 odds of accidentally shooting herself to death while going through her purse.

I was born in the early 1980s and my mom worked in a library. I remember sitting in the boiled egg chairs spinning myself around and watching the smoke in the light while listening to the kurzweil reading machine…

People really smoked everywhere back then. And if they were discouraged from smoking in one area they would still be offered a nearby area for smoking. I remember a friend in the 1990’s whose dad insisted on sitting in the smoking section so he could smoke and eat at the same time and how completely unappetizing the food became immediately too.

Seemed so strange to me.

Both my parents smoked in the car with the windows rolled up but even they could take a break for long enough to eat…

The exception was church.

No one smoked in church.

I was born in the late 60s, but that all sounds very much like my experience, except for the library part. But I can remember going to my dad’s office (he was a high school guidance counselor) and he smoked in his office.

This is starting to feel similar to how society has forgotten how deadly diseases like the Measles, Mumps, Rubella, etc, could be because they haven’t been a part of our lived experience in a long time, and that contributing to some of the anti-vax sentiment. Younger people have no idea how smoky the world used to be. And not just from cigarettes, either, but cars, factories, etc. The air quality today, overall, really is much better than it used to be, except when forest fires turn the sky red.

ETA: And yeah, no one smoked in church. I never thought about that until you mentioned it. Huh.

I assume laws changed in different places at different times too and to varying degrees.

I guess this is all OT but what is there to say about Lauren Boebert at this point? I would not be surprised if she smoked during all of her own pregnancies really.

"Smokers to the right, non-smokers to the left. I remember ashtrays on the back of the seats.
My problem wasn’t smoking, it was the quart of vodka at a screening of 2001 that did for me. Asked to leave because of the snoring…

My wife’s parents smoked loads when driving, at home, and so on (in fact, she started smoking at 14 and took years to kick the habit), I’m very glad my mom put paid to my dad’s pipe habit, and I didn’t grow up in a house where people smoked.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if making a public spectacle and getting kicked out of the theater was intentional so she could get more public attention and claim martyrdom at the hands of leftist cancel culture warriors.
