Also, it clearly was not shot in Sardinia, judging by the architecture, and the look and clothing of the crowd.

Well, then yeah… that’s pretty damning. Intended as a joke or not, you don’t bring something like that to a competition.
I saw “teste” and thought the sport would perhaps have something to do with idiots kicking each other in the balls. I’m genuinely surprised that the video wasn’t about that and actually genuine. Dumb men’s games.

Started out under several monikers, one of them was “World’s Championship Series”.
Possibly because the New York World newspaper (Joseph Pulitzer’s rag of sensation, sports, sex and scandal) promoted it like this to boost its own circulation.
