Conservative wing of Ontario government wants sexual art removed from office gallery

Damn, I guess I need to learn my art history before I go spouting off…

Except, that’s not actually what’s happening here. It’s a completely separate art gallery displaying this work, but it just happens to be housed in a government building. They don’t have to walk past it every day, unless they specifically go into the gallery.

You’ve moved the goalposts. From your first question

If you, as a civil servant, brought in a personal calendar featuring images that offended others, then I’m assuming (because I haven’t the faintest idea what the rules and regulations are for your workplace) that the offended party would have access to petition for the calendar’s removal. That’s a wholly different kettle of fish from removing art in a gallery funded by the government.

There are precious few details about the gallery itself except what’s quoted above:

The Liberal government says the gallery is a public space operated by an independent board of directors made up of volunteers from the community and representatives from four art societies.
The newspaper report speaks of it being a "public space" that appears independent of the local workspace--it's not yours, it's not in your office, but it's in a building attached to yours and vetted by art groups, among others. Seems much akin to the controversy generated by images taken by this photographer:

Someone should tell these people that if the want to look at porn they can just use their internets at home or in their offices.

They don’t have to go to all the way to an art gallery in Toronto and then complain about it.

I’ve been there, it’s a totally separate space, you would have to enter it to see what the porn in the round was all about.

Too bad about the name of the gallery tho, John B. Aird isn’t John Baird but nowadays anyone seeing the name of the gallery will think of John Baird.

This isn’t quite accurate. Canada still has the Liberal Party under Justin Trudeau (running a close third in polls right now), Greens (who have two elected MPs) and Bloc Quebecois (Quebec nationalist party that suffered at the hands of the NDP). Should also be noted that the NDP had to move further right under Layton (and now Mulcair) and take advantage of disaffected BQ voters to gain their current position. Yes they are still the most left wing party in the country.

It’s likely that Canada will have a minority government come October’s election, with at least 3 parties achieving “Official” status, meaning they have at least 10 seats (I think). Canada is politically divided, but I don’t think it even closely resembles the American trend.

To be fair May remains the only elected Green though they have 2 sitting MP’s, the Bloc suffered at the hands of the Bloc, and Canada moved to the right, movement that was reflected in all parties.

Somebody that gets more and more Conservative as time goes on, until the condition is irreversible?

Really? From what I’ve seen, the NDP are to the Greens’ right, not their left.

I think the Greens are trying to position themselves more as a centrist party, actually.
