Reminds me of the veterinary practice news “They ate what?” contest. Vets send in the x-ray of the strangest things they found in animals this year.

It is, though, normal for them to eat stones, to help grinding up their food- so the less spiky metal items may well not have been harmful.

As an aside, I got a strong Proustian flash from this image, as it was in a book of old photos from London Zoo that fascinated me as a child. Particularly the photo of a thylacine.
