Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 2)

The Trump of Asia and the Trump of the tropics are seeing the same level of success in controlling their pandemic as their idol did. Only saving grace for us was that we were able to vote him out. And that was terrifyingly close. It ain’t over yet, kiddies. Not by a long shot.

Someone younger than me told me that while “fully vaccinated” was a flex on dating sites the power flex is “fully vaccinated with Pfizer BioNTech”.

Some more details here:

“Although international guidelines have established that replicating viruses should not be present in the vaccines, the [Sputnik V developers] set the limit of 1x103 [1,000] RCA per dose of 1x1011 [100 billion] viral particles, which is considerably above the limits allowed in the guidance of the American FDA” for gene therapies.

In another report, Anvisa wrote (again translated): “It is noteworthy that the replicating adenovirus was detected in all batches presented for component II [Ad5-based second dose] of the vaccine and not evaluated in component I [Ad26-based first doses].”

Russia touts that “the safety and efficacy of Sputnik V has been confirmed by 61 regulators in countries where the vaccine has been authorized.” However, Brazil’s regulators said that of 51 countries it contacted, only 14 were using the vaccine, and that most of those countries were ones that did not have a tradition of vigilant drug safety monitoring.

That is really not OK. Probably not life-threatening or anything, but speaks to sloppy manufacturing standards, which in vaccine production is a big honking no-no.

Good news for me, because now I can wait right up to my driver’s license expiration in 2022.

Same here.

I reiterate a comment stated at the beginning of this whole ordeal;

I will NOT die from ‘stupid.’

I got mine renewed a couple months ago so now I have my grizzled covid beard and wild unkempt hair memorialized on my license for the next decade.

Damn, that is awful. Wow. You have to work pretty damn hard to make US Pharma look good by comparison!

yeah, derek lowe almost never uses expletives more extreme than “hell” or “damn”. for him t unequivocally describe something as “bullshit” is his version of running around with his hair on fire. but he’s right on any level you want to look at it.

Deja vu for me…

But even with these suspicions, there are a lot of people here thinking It is a kind of vaccine cold war.

And news like this one thrown gasoline at the conspiracy campfire of the tinfoil hat brigade.

Fortunately people screaming on social media are not as persuasive as those who act in the real world. People here are really more concerned about the possibility of lacking vaccines because of the situation in India.

Germany surpassed administering 1 million doses per day yesterday.

Around me, people start getting their first doses. My neighbour, a teacher on maternal leave, will get her’s today. Two neighbours, both octagenarians, will receive their second BioNtech dose tomorrow, which is especially great since the 1st of May is a national holiday and vaccination centres still often are closed on Sundays and national holidays.

Hospitalisation after an infection dropped to an all-time low of 4 % (but may retrospectively rise again, warns the RKI), and is projected to stabilise at about 7 to 8 %.

My PCR test this week was negative, after a warning from the contact tracing app.

So, somewhat of a good week, if I do not count all the bad news and terrible discussions (e.g. around giving vaccinated ‘back their rights’).
