Oh yeah, forgot the worst part: that whole 5G thing is some sort of bait and switch, they used a fucking needle!!!
The usual argument would be that vaccination would be a sustainable strategy, of you a) want to keep your workforce (i.e. not have a lot of people falling ill at a time, not having people with long Covid who can’t work, or even worse lose their lives) and b) not to be shut down by the health authorities due to an outbreak and c) to get the pandemic under control by supporting herd immunity so you got a fucking market for your products.
I guess for that particular employers, all of this does not matter.
because there are always other people in need of the job.
This is why Capitalism still manages to lurch along most of the time, except maybe in the case of a pandemic. Employers can and do ignore their own faults and magnify the faults of exploited workers, much like the candy shop owner in the post from a few days ago.
Blue’s OK… it will come loose with sufficient force. Don’t use red, though. Requires a lot of heat to get it to break.
Worth reading. Includes references to the US willingness to get vaccinated.
@anon29537550, FTR if you don’t have the time to read it: the situation is still unresolved, but STIKO members have several times now declared that more data would be needed for a general recommendation. It is likely that it will recommend vaccination only for kids with pre-existing conditions.
I really, really hope that top notch international studies on long Covid in kids and PIMS are in preparation, and fast-tracked for publication.
Using alpha to omega for variants of Covid in non-scientific settings. Makes sense as the scientific designation isn’t suitable for general communication purposes and the place of detection thing is not fit for purpose either. Unless race hate is your purpose.
Mind you if we ever get to Omega it might freak people out…
Covid-19 variants to be given Greek alphabet names to avoid stigma
As long as the Boris Johnson variant gets “β” that’s fine by me…
Sorry, early exposure to Aldous Huxley in my life.
Speaking of “bad second choices” in politicians, The Toronto Star today revealed in an investigation that back in November 2020 the Ontario Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, had absolutely no idea whether the schools were safe to re-open and was apparently talking out of an orifice other than his mouth.
Political science grad, no experience in education or anything else except politics. Proceeding with Conservative agenda to cut public education funding.
canada’s an interesting outlier there. a huge number of first shots and not so many seconds.
prioritizing first shots over second shots maybe?
Where can we find that?
prioritizing first shots over second shots maybe?
Yes, the plan is quite explicitly to get a first dose into as many arms as possible. The delay decision was made while ICU’s were swamped, and the results have been encouraging so far.
My family, being in a hot spot, got the first dose of Pfizer already, my wife and I in April and the kids last week. Second doses are delayed until August. As of right now we’re allowed the second dose to be either of the mRNA vaccines, Pfizer or Moderna.
As usual, the science has error bars around it and calls are growing stronger for that second dose to be given faster.
Edit: More background on that decision to delay the second dose. Dr. Danuta Skowronski with the B.C. Centre for Disease Control led the push, after her team’s research results on the question showed better than expected overall response from the first dose alone.
My data source is:
This data is on the UK/ROTW tab
This guy has been doing a stand-out job collating all the official sources of data, and displaying it in an easy to use dashboard pretty much since first lockdown.
