Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 3)

To add another layer: because there is an unreachable and far to high percentage of unvaccinated, the vulnerable vaccinated population will need boosters, and because of that, nearly fucking everyone and their fucking dog in the so-called developed world will want a booster.

And this, in turn, will kill millions among the poor, far away, somewhere in the “third world” and “developing world”.

And I’m not even kidding about the fucking dog.

ETA: sorry no onebox.

FWIW, I’ve been getting the exact opposite encouragement: get the booster, you’re not stopping anyone in the country from getting their first dose, and it won’t affect the numbers of doses we send to other countries.

At this point, the booster still hasn’t been approved for everyone where I live. I want to get one, but I am not qualified according to the criteria. Considering how many doses we throw away because the antivaxxers don’t want them, this feels like a slap in the face.

Seems the number went from hundreds, to dozens, to, well, one guy. Not as dramatic as one would think.

The look in his eyes when he delivered that burn of the union at the end. Priceless.

19th News did a thorough, extensive analysis of the data and found that while 15% or 16% of non-LGBTQ+ people lost their jobs during the month before the survey was conducted, more than 30% of trans folks did. A total of 23% of the LGBTQ+ population lost their jobs in that month.

While less than one-quarter of non-LGBTQ+ people said they had difficulty paying for basic household expenses during that period, according to the news outlet, just over one-third of LGBTQ+ people said the same. Similarly, only 6% to 7% of non-LGBTQ+ people reported not having enough to eat, while 24% of trans folks said the same.

Disturbingly, 19th News found that both LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ folks reported concerns about possible evictions as we near the fall season, coming in at about 40% of both populations reporting that they’re either very likely or somewhat likely to face eviction in either September or October.”

Yeah, the question was semi-rhetorical, it almost always comes down to money when politicians are fucking things up. But one would think that the results being shown by Texas and Florida in the States and Saskatchewan and Alberta in Canada would be enough for everyone else to realize that this isn’t the way to go.

Politicians in general, and Cons in particular, seem to have a lot of trouble dealing with reality.

Considering the fact that they have declared war on “the fact-based community,” it seems they consider it a feature rather than a bug.

The conversations Naughton describes may be epidemiologically out of step, but he and thousands of others seem trapped in an America-right-now vortex, a swirl of politics, belief, resentment and fear. At fast food restaurants, grocery stores, warehouses, nursing homes and anywhere else frontline workers show up each day, a deep schism has taken hold. Workers nervous about the virus find themselves at the mercy of those who aren’t.

“If I ask people to wear a mask or socially distance at work, they get mad and tell the manager. Then I have to get coached. If you get coached too many times, you lose your job,” Naughton said, referring to the company’s system for managing worker infractions. (Charles Crowson, a Walmart spokesman, did not dispute that an accumulation of coachings could lead to termination.)

At this point it kinda appears that Walmart is catering to these particular kind of assholes.

A video posted to social media shows Joe McCarron, who received treatment in intensive care at a hospital in Donegal, being convinced to leave by Italian national Antonio Mureddu Gravegliu.

Mureddu, a member of the so-called Freedom on the Land Movement, filmed the video and posted it on his Telegram channel.

Ireland Taoiseach Micheál Martin criticized the anti-vaxxer for encouraging McCarron to leave the hospital, reported the Irish Mirror.
“If you get it (COVID-19), you should treat it as very serious,” Martin said.
“Certainly, it is outrageous that anyone would, in an ill-informed way, be advising people to leave the hospital. It endangers that person’s health.”

What? No charges? This must be something on the level of manslaughter, must it not?

I used to think “death cult” was hyperbole.

I started using it because I literally couldn’t find a more accurate thing to call it!

That’s way too true, sadly. Way too deeply entrenched at this point. But “thank you for your (too little, too late) support.”
