Over 1,000 students out at the same time? Sure, it’s the ‘flu’.

We’ve been warned that a bad flu is overdue.

True, but taking out half a school at once? That sounds suspiciously like…

Well - it’s not Covid. Or so it seems.

What to Know

  • The San Diego Unified School District confirmed there have been a high number of absences at Patrick Henry High School due to probable influenza.
  • The district said so far all COVID-19 tests have been negative but found that several students have tested positive for the flu.
  • A source familiar with the situation told NBC 7 there are hundreds of cases and almost half of the school is affected or absent.

Rapid flu tests are quick and cheap. We are seeing ridiculous levels of influenza here already. Not looking forward to this.

Ontario :canada: starts the flu shot campaign November 1st. You only have to live here to get one. Bivalent COVID-19 boosters are now open for everyone over 12.

Is it known yet, whether this year’s flu vaccine is a good match for the actual flu that’s going around, or is it too soon to know? I was doing some Googling for it, but so far only finding info about last year’s not-so-good-match.

Too soon to know. Weirdly early presentation, a lot more B than usual for early in the season, to the point we are wondering if this is “late” last year’s flu, or screwed up this year’s. So, yeah, not even certain what is circulating yet.

I suspect it is not so much “fading” ss being displaced by something better adapted. Too soon to decide what thd implications are, but i am seeing reports that these are even better at evading preexisting immunity. No word on disease severity. I am very confident we will find out, though. Hoping it’s not a “Yay! The lions are leaving!” “What the hell is that eating the lions?” kind of situation.
