“Boosters” at this point. there was a monovalent booster a while back, now (I think everyone is eligible) there is a bivalent booster for 5 and up that we should also be getting. (US policies, no knowledge of international norms.)

This is what the European CDC is recommending:

Thank you for the link. What a shambles the vaccination offering seems to be.

I have had a bivalent booster in September. Looks like 12m doses have been administered.

The daughter who is a vegan? I sent her a sock Advent calendar this year.

Seriously, you can get almost anything as an Advent calendar.

Thanks, I just ordered my wife a Christmas sock Advent Calendar. She’s gonna love me extra when I give it to her.

The Aldi coffee one was sold out so I have to get her a nice coffee calendar, still looking for a nice one…

That was (and still is) probably the number one gov’t screw up in the launch of the COVID vaccines. Many people feel like crap afterward. There should have been mandated paid sick leave post-vaccine. There should still be.

And COVID has really brought into stark relief how fucking stupid sick leave is handled in the US. If you’re sick, STAY HOME. Employers should chase sick employees away from the work site, not force them to come home.

Part of it is that presenteeism so ingrained in our culture that it’s pretty much impossible to reverse it by now. Just had a fight with my spouse about that one - our kid had a 101 degree fever the day after her booster, and Spouse still wanted to send her to school because there was an important test that day. I mean, this is a 6 year old we’re talking about. There are no financial consequences, there are no educational consequences, nothing. It was pure psychology.

(I won the fight and the kid got to stay home, thankfully)

This is the mindset that has our childrens’ hospitals on divert, our ED’s facing 8 hour wait times, the urgent care centers refusing patients and my office capping our walk-ins for the first time ever. Just so many sick kids we cannot even begin to care for all of them. I have never seen a situation like this, and I have been doing this since 1990.

Pics or it didn’t happen.

I’m seriously jealous. One of my lifetime goals is to drink every beer there is.

FTR, I am on sick leave since the beginning of October. Symptoms are all there except for fever. I had multiple CC’s (COVID contacts - I just made that up), but an constantly testing negative, including PCRs. My doctors asked me multiple times if it could be COVID. Yet, I still have to find someone to run an antibody test on the nucleocapsid antibodies, which could inform me if I was infected an just missed the point when the bugger was still in my respiratory tract.

I am getting better, but fuck this is annoying. My medications lined up look lovely and would fit right into any retirement home.

Good part: I keep getting better since a week and now it finally feels like a stable result, I am still employed and am getting paid, and I used the time I had to get some stuff done I have been putting off since 2019 (slowly, slowly).
