hybrid Covid immunity

Does that mean that those of us who are fully vaxed will be better off if we go out maskless, mix it up with the masses, and catch Covid?

I’m still waiting for that cure for long Covid and a pan-vaccine before making that move! Next year, top news stories might include a series called “Mistakes were Made.” :grimacing:

I’m waiting until my cardiologist says he’s positive I’ll survive the actual virus and if I survive my heart won’t be damaged.

No. Hybrid is vaccine + illness, giving increased, but hardly foolproof, immunity. I would be very hesitant about assigning any sort of “super-immunity” powers to that. It’s just the usual “decreases risk of complications, hospitalizations and long covid,” but your own risk tolerance will guide you level of comfort with exposure. Personally, I haven’t changed a damned thing.

(I may be about to make myself look stupid, but here goes
)

Is the headline misleading, or am I reading/figuring it wrong?

[Headline] Study shows COVID-19 rates were likely forty-times higher than CDC estimates during BA.4/BA.5 dominant period in the U.S.

Study findings
About 17% of study participants reported being infected with SARS-CoV-2 during the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 dominant period. This equates to 44 million cases, which is much higher than the 1.8 million cases estimated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during that period.

I mean, forty-times higher than 1.8 million would be 72 million, wouldn’t it, not 44 million? Aren’t the findings closer to 24-25 times higher than the estimate? Am I looking at it wrong?

Thanks doc. And yeah, I haven’t either, still masking everywhere in public.

I guess one concession has been dining in restaurants once in awhile, but i only do that during off hours when I can ask for a table far from others. The carefree people around me make me feel more and more weird in my behavior, but I still haven’t caught this thing!

Same, despite swimming in it with regularity for nigh on 3 years. I trust that I have a very good immune system, but I choose not to rely on that any more than necessary.

Looks like it’s a sloppy headline to me as well.

Alternatively, I suppose it’s possible that the study findings section has a typo in there
My money would be on sloppy headline, though, if I had to make a bet

And
clicking through and looking at the abstract of the study
the findings as reported in the News-Medical article match the abstract.

So: it’s a weird headline on the article, IMO.

Oh brother.

What I learned, other than what I already knew about Harrelson, apparently there are different rules for some actors vs. the crew. That’s messed up. Why should the actors or some actors be allowed to ignore rules that the crew have to follow?

There was another recent case of a famous actor who refused to follow safety protocols. Remind me, Woody, how did that turn out?

You’d think it could be raised as a workplace safety or legal issue by crew members who don’t want to be endangered. Now I guess that all depends on the policies or standards of the businesses involved.

After 4 years of Tropical Trumpism it is a relief when we have someone who does the bare minimum expected of a president.

Sitting outside a courtroom with my mask on. Of 75 potential jurors, there are about 10 of us with masks on. :mask:
