Welp, I’ve had AZ, Pfizer and Moderna.
Not to reject the metaphor, but just to footnote…
“The picture actually dates from 1958, during the Algerian War (i.e., a war for independence waged against French forces in Colonial Algeria). And it depicts a starving donkey that was rescued by a member of the French Foreign Legion who carried it back to his base, where the animal was nursed back to health, given the name “Bambi,” and adopted as a unit mascot…”
OMG there are Trump 2020 signs at protests in Japan?!
I feel sick and like I need to apologize to the entire nation
Sadly, Japan is not immune to all of the far-right propaganda that we have been seeing throughout the world. There are very sophisticated propaganda outlets feeding them the same shit that American GQPers get, translated into Japanese and pushed by some prominent figures on the Japanese far right. During the aftermath of the election, I was seeing new conspiracy theories in Japanese before I was seeing them in English, and I could only wonder where they were getting this shit.
The good news is that their numbers are nowhere near the dozens of percent of Americans who buy into at least some of that stuff.
More discussion of issues with data from countries like China and India:
since i am personally shiftless with my typing i generally don’t do “spelling policing” but with folks like that i might use anything that fits.
Did you see kids with this condition in the youngest cohorts already? Like, 3 to 5, and 5 to 10?
Today, the Kindergarten just around the corner had four positive cases in saliva-based (“lollipop”) antigene lateral flow devices, administered by professionals.
They sent the kids in question home (I think), but the others stayed.
The current regulations demand negative a PoC antigene or PCR test the day after a contact in their group to be allowed back.
Due to miscommunication, they will allow also kids tested today back in tomorrow.
We are fucked.
We are fucked.
The Long COVID burden just doesn’t reckon into the political calculus, it seems. Ontario’s death rate is about as high as it was in the 3rd wave. We’re only 1½ weeks back into in-person school; that’s not showing up on hospitalization stats yet (we have no case rate stats any more). Restaurants re-open today at 50% capacity. The politicians have given up.
Now this…
I have seen 1 case in 5-10, 3 in 11-18 so far. The denominator on this is unknown currently. I suspect there are more, these didn’t even come in for that, but for weight loss. Caused by alteration in taste, but apparently that was not much concern. Yeah, we are fucked.
im sure he’s trying to be funny but it’s almost impossible to satirize when “jewish space lasers” started california’s forest fires and “cloud seeding” was used to start midwest tornados. when the earth is flat and the problem with racism is people who point it out
at this point irony and satire are just tools of the trade to generate “controversy” and further spread the message
Melania is beside herself.
He was poking fun at the do your own research crowd. He’s also the director of the Maine CDC, he spends most of his twitter time promoting vaccines and testing.
Money quote:
Even if long Covid turns out to be less common among people who have been infected with omicron, the sheer number of cases right now means that millions may still develop the condition. “Even if it’s rare,” said Peluso, “it will affect a lot of people.” “We’re worried,” said Proal. “It’s not being communicated to the public as one of the things to take into consideration in how to live these days. Not as much as it should be.”
“Now is not the time,” “Thoughts and prayers,” “If you are strong enough, you will be fine,” etc.
Epstein-Barr virus, for example, seems to be reactivated in people with Covid-19, and scientists are studying whether the herpes viruses and the common parasite Toxoplasma do the same.
Toxoplasma… damn… half the kids in this household are feline. The humans done for.
These guys really need to do better if they want the public to take the orders seriously.
I have to say that the County mask mandate is very confusing for us residents. I thought that you have to wear a mask at all sporting events with large crowds, but my husband believes its only for indoor events.
Also, the football stadium is also part of the issue. It has openings made up of panels that can be opened, so there’s even a dispute whether it’s an indoor or an outdoor stadium (they once had a lightning storm and had people move out of their seats to the covered concourse areas).
Personally, I think it’s nuts to be around other non-masked individuals because even being vaxxed, boosted and double masked (and no eating), my husband still brought home Covid while he was working at an arena.
Be that as it may, the governor definitely knew the rules. Here’s what he said at a news conference:
I heard a brief part of that on the radio and he stressed “I was trying to be gracious!” a couple of times. He didn’t really apologize and stopped himself halfway through saying the word “mistake.”
The point is that this guy knows damn well how his actions set an example and he really should have learned his lesson from earlier gaffes like the French Laundry dinner. Removing your mask for a photo is definitely no accident, and a smart career politician like him should have known the photos would be all over the news. My workplace has been masked up for almost the entire pandemic and we know better than to pose for photos with masks off.
