I say we add those eight senators to the list. And none of them will be missed!
We ask Philadelphia restaurant owners why theyâre keeping their proof of vaccine rules
Every day brings a new wtf and now Iâve heard everything moment.
A truck driver fighting Canadaâs vaccine mandates hasnât been able to see his sick 9-year-old daughter in months because neither he nor his wife are vaccinated.
He said their 9-year-old daughter is receiving palliative care at St. Amant, a care residence in Winnipeg, and the facility requires that visitors be vaccinated.
Yeah, there seems to be a pretty easy fix for that. Apparently his âfree-dumbsâ are more important than his daughterâs life. Says a lot, yes, it does.
Sorry to be late to the conversation. Iâm also in Oregon, and couldnât believe the kind of, âhey, masks have dropped the number of cases! therefore we no longer need to require masksâ kind of logic.
Iâm preparing for another âDelta-likeâ wave, like the one that crested after the original mask mandate was lifted last year. Aaaand another mask mandate to be implemented⌠(counts on fingers) at the end of May / start of June, maybe?
Best of luck!
Analogy I have seen a few places:
âThe parachute has successfully slowed our fall. Now is the time to cut it loose!â
And I fully expect a similar outcome. Fuck.
A U.S. Marine Corps Reservist from New York who previously was arrested on charges related to participating in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot has been charged in a new case of conspiring to sell fake Covid-19 vaccination cards to fellow reservists, prosecutors said Thursday.
The reservist, 26-year-old Queens resident Jia Liu, is accused of conspiring with a nurse named Steven Rodriguez, 27, to defraud the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the fake card distribution scheme, according to prosecutors in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn.
Liu separately is charged with providing these cards to Marine Corps reservists, thus defrauding the Defense Department.
After the first person known to have become infected with the Omicron variant in the United States was revealed to have attended a 53,000-person anime convention in Manhattan, concerns quickly mounted that the event had sown the seeds of a major coronavirus outbreak.
But a new study released on Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggested that a combination of good air filtration, widespread vaccination and indoor masking had in fact helped prevent the anime convention in November from becoming a superspreader event.
The share of attendee tests that came back positive was similar to the share of coronavirus tests that were positive across New York City around the same time, the C.D.C. said. Whatâs more, the few positive samples that were genetically sequenced were largely of the Delta variant, not Omicron.
And conventiongoers who became infected were more likely than those who tested negative to have gone to bars, nightclubs or karaoke clubs.
Still, the C.D.C. said that the virusâs spread at the convention could have been much worse had it been held after Omicron became dominant in the city, given that the variant is so contagious and capable of spreading among the vaccinated. At the anime convention, the C.D.C. said in a separate report on Thursday, the only documented Omicron infections were in a single cluster of at least 16 positive cases.

Under agreements between the EU and the Pfizer pharmaceutical company, Finland is likely to end up with millions of surplus doses of Covid vaccine this year, as Yle reported on Thursday.
Ilta-Sanomat notes that Pfizer raised the price of its vaccine last August to 19.50 euros per dose, meaning that if five million doses of vaccine are left over that would equal nearly 100 million euros âthrown down the wellâ, as IS puts it.
No decision has yet been made on a fourth round of vaccinations. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has not yet granted authorisation for a fourth dose of the vaccine and there is no indication as of yet that it will.
If a fourth round of vaccination is not carried out on the entire population, the paper writes, Finland will have almost 200 million euros worth of surpluses.
The vaccines are the property of the state, so it is the government that will ultimately decide what to do with them.
Donating the surplus to other countries is a likely solution. IS quotes Mia Kontio of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare as saying that the best scenario would be to send the vaccines earmarked for Finland directly to other countries from the Pfizer plant.
However, IS points out, this would not eliminate the fact that taxpayers will still foot the bill for the surplus vaccines. In addition, the paper notes that there is the issue of legal liability. Who is responsible if something happens, the pharmaceutical company, the donor country, or the recipients?
Conclusions The findings suggest that people who survive the
acute phase of covid-19the current pandemic are at increased risk of an array of incident mental health disorders. Tackling mental health disordersamong survivors of covid-19should be a priority.
FTFY.
ETA: if you are affected directly or indirectly, I would like to apologize. I realise that my comment can be read as minimizing the pain an trouble you are going though. Please take my word that this is not my intention. On the contrary, I think mental health issues are not taken seriously enough. Far beyond survivors of COVID-19.
In viral harakiri news
IANAL, but I go on a limp here and call bullshit.
I read this as dog-whistling.
Itâs from a tabloid.
So in my local Facebook group, where most everyone says whatâs the big deal about 900,000+ deaths because thatâs only a 1.5% fatality rate are very upset right now.
Why? Because a local baby formula manufacturer that makes 3 national brands is recalling their product because of a deadly bacteria that hospitalized 4 babies and killed 1 baby.
Iâm like⌠whatâs the big deal? I dead baby and 4 sick out of millions of babies using the formula why are they living in fear? What a bunch of sheeple.
Funny which deadly things outrage them and which deadly things donât.
If you know anyone with infants here is the information just in case.
I think the difference lies in the idea that folks actively seek out and use baby formula to feed and protect their children. Nothing about COVID is meant for the protection of children.
One is deadly to a few by accident â which can be avoided. One is deadly to a few (or many, if folks let it spiral out of control) by natureâs design.
Both things should have people concerned and want to do everything in their power to prevent.
I agree they are very different things, I just find it interesting what outrages people in my community. They blow off close to a million deaths as being a small percentage of people to die, whatâs the big deal, as opposed to a single baby. I donât mean to make light of that babies death either, itâs tragic and I can not imagine what the family is going through.
I may be stating it wrong but in my opinion if the outrage over 4 sick infants and one dead infant was the same outrage over 900,000 deaths we might be in a better place right now.
I think the other thing is they can blame a company easier then they can blame themselves for letting a deadly pandemic run rampant without lifting a finger to try and stop.
Just FYI, these are the affected lots:
The FDA is advising consumers not to use Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powdered infant formulas if:
- the first two digits of the code are 22 through 37; and
- the code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2; and
- the expiration date is 4-1-2022 (APR 2022) or later.
The FDA is investigating complaints of four infant illnesses from three states. All four cases related to these complaints were hospitalized and Cronobacter may have contributed to a death in one case. The FDA has initiated an onsite inspection at the facility. Findings to date include several positive Cronobacter sakazakii results from environmental samples taken by the FDA and adverse inspectional observations by the FDA investigators. A review of the firmâs internal records also indicate environmental contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii and the firmâs destruction of product due to the presence of Cronobacter .
Also, you know the old wisdom: âOne death is a tragedy, one million is a statistic.â We are terrible as a species at evaluating huge numbers like this.
