I’m not seeing where you found the atonement. I don’t think working as a firefighter for pay is atonement for arson. It’s just working in the same field as the crime, like a saboteur also working for a construction company.

Arsène Lupin, the French master thief, was also asked to solve crimes. Lupin was a real hoot. He famously once left a note, after breaking into a rich man’s home but stealing nothing. The note read, “I shall return when the furniture is genuine.”

QAnon/Covid-denial mobs have me screwed up that whenever I see any borderline crowd advocating for a political cause, I’m suspicious. But, I think I side with the firefighters?
