I think that some laws need to be passed such that when there are conflicting stories a suspect’s testimony should be assumed to be the true account if a cop’s bodycam was off or the footage “got lost”, to encourage the cameras to stay on and functional and for the footage to not mysteriously disappear.

Yeah, and we have all also seen egregious footage where the body cams were recording but there was still no accountability. Real fixes will be more foundational, whether its defunding or something else* that changes police culture and accountability. Courts no longer taking the word of cops without corroborating evidence is definitely one aspect to address

*not convinced there is something other than defunding that would do it

Being a NASCAR driver requires a lot of talent and luck. It’s much easier to become a cop.

Edit: also, driving racecars requires a level of bravery not seen in most police.

Yeah, that’s a great idea. Law enforcement should really be the ones with the burden of proof. Lawyers should also be more proactive at quizzing the involved officers in court over the lack of bodycam evidence.
