Yes, we do. The cops who pepper sprayed a minor who needed medical attention are at fault.
I did list the possibility that he didn’t see her; in fact, I listed it first. But it’s an intersection, so the only way that damage configuration could occur is if he was going too fast in an intersection with a bicycle. And I’ve seen the speed-up thing very regularly, so it’s not that much of a stretch to list it as another possibility.
No, sorry, that’s bullshit. I’ve hit the side of two cars on my bike, and both time the driver of the car was at fault.
I’m cycling down a road. A driver coming the other way turns left immediately in front of me without signalling, in complete disregard for his lack of right of way in the face on oncoming traffic (i.e. me). With so little time to react, and attention focussed on the car now suddenly directly in my path, I have no opportunity to shoulder check and make sure that if I swerve around the car I won’t be putting myself under another car behind my left shoulder. I slam on brakes, but with so little time/space in which to react there isn’t enough to prevent me from colliding with the side of the car.
I had the right of way. The driver of the vehicle did not. He executed an illegal left turn, forcing me to collide with him. He caused the accident.
actually sounds like a jab. Which it was. And made in good faith using a touch of snark to simply illustrate your point. I don’t take it personally.
you are wrong. Again…read the actual whole sentence…
I think the cop’s forgot that the reason they were trying to detain her was for her own well being. I would consider this a reasonable response to an adult who had just committed a crime and was resisting arrest in the same way that the girl was, but in this case it was a minor who may have recently sustained head injuries.
He is not stating she is a criminal or blaming her. He is stating that her behavior can be and was treated as resisting by the officers. @cmos1138 also follows up that she is fact a minor who may have been injured.
He is not victim blaming whatsoever. You are making a false equivalency in his words and implying meaning that is not there.
Fault for the original accident, not the police’ crazy ass response.
Sure, because that is most likely what happened. That doesn’t excuse the over the top speculation for the second part. Even if he was 100% at fault for making an error, being at fault for an accident and suggesting they intentionally caused it are two different things.
Like I said, if one were to speculate the opposite, that the bike rider intentionally cause the accident, it would be victim blaming.
I didn’t realize this was a thread about the original accident, and who was to blame for setting the crazy ass response in motion, but maybe it is about who started it?
I didn’t bring it up, I commented on someone else bringing it up.
And seriously, you want to blame the guy for calling the cops? Pretty sure if you get in an accident like that you are legally obligated to call the cops. Or you can be like the last person who rear ended me - just drive off like nothing happened.
Let’s focus where the issue is - cops getting way out of line handling a minor who was just in a traffic accident.
He is comparing her, a wounded teenager, explicitly, to any other person ‘resisting’ the attention of the cops.
Resisting care is therefore comparable to resisting arrest?
I’m NOT EVEN INCORRECT.
The false equivalence is between a wounded girl and a perp. And now YOU and HE are making it and it is victim blaming
What? How do you know he called the cops? I don’t know that.
I want you to recognize that nothing this girl did, before during or after, justified this police response.
Cop who sprayed watches the cruiser drive off. It wasn’t even his car.
I never suggested, in the least, that this was the case. If you feel I did, I suggest you re-read what I wrote, or perhaps you are confusing me with someone else.
Sometimes I get confused about the role that police have in America, so someone remind me:
Does abuse of a minor fall under protection or service?
Doesn’t end, does it? Everyday there’s a new one for the books. Perhaps she didn’t want to go to the hospital because her family doesn’t have the absurd amount of money to cover the visit. Or, maybe she just didn’t want to go and, that’s her decision!
So to help her they bullied and roughed her up even more, pepper sprayed her, took her to jail, the grand tour… yeah… all the while she was probably delirious and didn’t know if she was coming or going. I fell off a bike once and had to call someone to get directions home! Bike accidents are no joke. These dirtbags have nothing better to do.
F these bottom feeding pigs. All of them. They are a corrupt force of strong armed, low IQ goons. Their only purpose is to generate money for the State and keep prisons nice and full. Everything else they do, the terrorizing of citizens, home invasions, robberies, planting evidence, rapes and murders are all part of their twisted mentality. These guys are stoked when they see themselves in the mirror. They get off on being untouchable. They are our biggest threat in this country. They’re basically terrorists.
What’s always most confusing is how they end up releasing the videos. They’re going to get away with it regardless of how clear cut the footage is. All the video does is infuriate people more.
There’s going to have to be a nation wide revolution of sorts at some point. Just hope people are smart enough to aim their anger at the cops and politicians and not at fellow civilians and shop owners. All that does is further divide people.
So let’s go see what’s going on in the Facebook comments for this topic.
Ugh.
Pretty much sums up very 2nd amendment thread ever, too.
For some reason I engaged in that shitstorm last night. It must have been the boxed wine.
The police should be the people of the community in uniform. There should be no division or conflict of interest between the people and the police. Once there is a division then the police become the enemy of the people. The police should serve the interest of the people, and be one and the same. When this principle breaks down, then the police become an occupying army. When historically one race has oppressed another and policemen are recruited from the oppressor race to patrol the communities of the oppressed people, an intolerable contradiction exists.

This is on point:

i think if the girl ran a light/stop sign and hit the car, it is her fault. that’s not victim blaming, and she’s not the victim. holding someone accountable for her actions is just SOP.
