So… we’re pretty sure this time, right?
Blood Meridian is the shit. By which I mean insanely good. Quotation marks? Who needs em! Most punctuation is overrated, actually.
“Vamonos, amigos, he whispered, and threw the busted leather flintcraw over the loose weave of the saddleback. And they rode on in the friscalating dusklight”
Ha, pretty much!
My introduction to McCarthy was Blood Meridian, and it was one of the most disturbing books I’ve ever read. Also I couldn’t put it down and has stuck with me ever since. I’ve heard they’ve tried to make a screenplay out of it many times, but I don’t think it would ever work.
Maybe I’m just a philistine, but I tried to read Blood Meridian and thought it was quite riveting for a while and introduced interesting themes but at some point in the Mexican desert the “fight, recover from fight, cross desert over to the next ridge, another fight, recover, go across to the next ridge…” etc started to get a little repetitive without feeling like it was going anywhere or making a point with its repetitiveness and I lost interest. Maybe someone can explain why I should give it another chance. I did like it up to then.
However, I’ve often thought that Terrence Malick would be the perfect director for Blood Meridian.
James Franco keeps trying.
Ridley Scott was rumored to be in the running. He could do it justice. But it all depends on the script.
“Suttree” is a great read.
