Courts and cops don't know what to do with "sovereign citizens," the delusional far-rightists who claim the law doesn't apply to them

Gotta admit, BC does bored disdain quite well.

Never thought about it in those exact terms, but now I know why I adore BC. :star_struck:

I actually quite like Cumberbatch as an actor, (though that generic American accent needs some work.)

Hell, it’s not his fault that Steven Moffat’s version of ‘Sherlock Holmes’ is a pretentious asshat who glorifies being a sociopath.

in the mid-80s i met some proto-sovereign citizens who eventually went the whole hog. when i met them they were romanticizing gordon kahl and the way the government gunned him down like a common criminal when all he was doing was trying to stand up for his sovereign rights. i lived in a trailer park in east texas for a month one summer while i was going to college and the main one lived in a trailer 200 yards or so from mine. they also smoked weed which was how we met in the first place. he and his friends would sometimes go to a friend’s pasture and conduct “night maneuvers” with rifles and shotguns shooting up targets another guy had put up in random locations during the day.

it really was all as creepy as it sounds.

he and his wife kidnapped their daughter from the foster parents she had been placed with when cps took an interest over the things she had told someone about guns and killing. they left a message ion the foster parents’ doorstep saying as sovereign citizens the state had no right to interfere with their family. then they left the state. i lost touch with them at that point along with all the other folks they had hung with.

FWIW, Snipes was acquited of tax fraud and was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a tax return. His white co-defendants got felony convictions and ten-year sentences.

Being frank, it’s not “worth” very much at all; not in terms of actually rectifying an unfair and unjust system that marginalizes and disenfranchises anyone who isn’t male, White, straight, cisgender, able-bodied and claiming to be Xtian.

Ehh…some do but those folks? They don’t even understand the bogus argument that they are making. Flat out, “Sovereign Citizens” are idiots, incapable of grasping anything but a gun. The majority of 861 folks, Snipes included, are not following that particular idiotic minefield…they are following a DIFFERENT idiotic minefield.

Snipes had also filed fraudulent claims for refund and sent in fraudulent “notes” as tax payments. As a tax professional? I found the whole case fascinating especially when any tax professional with a bit of training and time for a little tax planning could’ve avoided most of the entire situation to begin with.

They still let him make an awful movie in the process…

Don’t use their propagandist term “sovereign citizens.” Call them what they are: if they don’t accept or comply with the law, they should be referred to as “illegals.”

What a cruel thing to do to Ireland!

Sorry, Alabama’s already full of them.

You think we should pay for clean air?

You do realize that corporations have fucked up our air for quite a while now… Ideally, they’d clean it up, but if they won’t, someone has to do it. I’d rather it get done than not.

That’s great and all, and I agree with it. It has absolutely nothing to do with Freemen on the land, because of the all-important words ‘engaging critically’.

You’ll have to be more specific; Snipes has made an awful lot of awful movies…

The key to that point is that these folks tend to be melanin deficient, so they’re not getting shipped to a tent city (regardless of whether they’re citizens or not). Silly rabbit, tent cities are for brown folks!

While that is true, Gallowwalkers is a special case, even for Snipes. After his indictment, he paid a $1M bond, returned to Africa, and went back to work on the movie…

I guess this is what happens when you disenfranchise your population and deny them access to education while leaving them free to arm themselves to the teeth - they make up their own fantasy world in which they have anything resembling self-determination apart from their freedom to crawl into a hole and die (and possibly shoot some people beforehand). This is about lack of sovereignty over their own life, just projected on being members of a “sovereign state”.

It’s funny because although I’m sure I don’t come across this way, I think I’m actually an authoritarian follower by inclination. I really just want to be told what to do so that I don’t have to decide for myself. But everyone who wants to tell me what to do is just so stupid.
