Yeah, this isn’t specific to COVID or any evolution on its part. This is related to poor healing and hard coughing. Older folks sometimes don’t heal all that great, and cough has been part of COVID as long as it has been a thing. This was very unfortunate for this poor woman, but not a sign of things to come.
