Georgia is in the south, we have a fair number of Craft breweries, and not just in the ATL… same for NC. Alabama isn’t the whole of the thing.
Breweries in Georgia produce a wide range of beers in different styles that are marketed locally, regionally and nationally.
In 2012 Georgia's 29 breweries and brewpubs employed 1,650 people directly, and more than 31,000 others in related jobs such as wholesaling and retailing. Including people directly employed in brewing, as well as those who supply Georgia's breweries with everything from ingredients to machinery, the total business and personal tax revenue generated by Georgia's breweries...
It’s not even true of Alabama, actually:
It strikes me as beside the point, though. People can be conservative and enjoy a good craft brew or a nicely cooked pizza.
This too.

In my rural area of Upstate NY, we had private craft brewing back in the 70’s and earlier, except they were called moonshiners back then.

That map is weird. You can filter by state, but not by Ohio.

Does Ohio have craft breweries? Seems like?
I wonder why?

Obligatory, courtesy of @anon61221983 :
Linguists, settling some inscrutable grudge, have been steadily sneaking more backdated synonyms for 'sharing borders' into the dictionary. They've added 'contiguous,' 'coterminous,' 'conterminous,' and next year they're adding 'conterguous.'

Well, there’s a lot of corn there, and back in the day, wasn’t much to do.
And there was local knowledge going back to prohibition and earlier, including some local folks who had a hand in prohibition era production, and earlier distilleries.
And some big city types who had local interests.

Moonshine was a thing in my highschool. You weren’t carded to buy moonshine, especially if you swiped it, as happened at times.
And yes, it’s now a craft brew thing. https://www.watermansdistillery.com/
