It does have some truth to it, though. People that travel and actually embed themselves tend to be more enlightened than superficial tourists.

I think you have to be open to that in the first place, honestly. It’s not an automatic thing. The willingness to embed yourself needs to be there first, I’d argue. And even then, I don’t think it’s automatically going to equal being more open minded. Humans can be incredibly willfully blind when we want to be.
