It doesn’t seem any more or less dumb than Western aerobic videos. Seems weird that the Ministry of Turbomachinery and Leggings would feel the need to imitate that format, though; was there a big black market for Jane Fonda tapes at the time?

It’s like Polizeiruf 110 a DDR cop show still made today. Older episodes are quaint compared to todays standard, but if you look at the same cop show made in the BRD are quite similar, like Der Kommissar or Derrick.
I suppose that one could find similarities between eastern and western bloc TV shows. And to be honest even Hollywood made ones are looking weird now.
