Data-driven analysis of the total, gratuitous inadequacy of women's pockets

That’s not the problem. Plenty of men spend their lives wearing “impractical” clothes. They still get pockets.

And sturdier material of higher quality.

Oh NOES! An UNGAINLY FIFTH! We might ruin men’s enjoyment of looking at our figures!!! /s

Especially when you’re talking about sort of fast fashions that most people can afford.

For work, I tend towards dresses, tights, a cardigan and my docs. For the rest of life, it’s usually a t-shirt and either a skirt (with socks) or a pair of shorts, and it takes going to usually 3 or 4 places to track down some jean shorts or cargo shorts that have decent pockets…

Well, I know you’re more informed on this issue than I, but when this has come up before people* have pointed out that anything other than completely empty pockets ruins the line of currently fashionable women’s clothing, while I can** basically carry a six-pack in fashionable men’s clothing.

And I think it’s true that fashionably dressed women gain social and economic advantages from their garb. I mean, I personally dig 45 year olds in jeans with no make-up, but studies seem to indicate the Big Businessmen*** that dominate the economy don’t.

* people believably presenting as female
** and have!
*** and -women, sadly

It’s all a conspiracy by big handbag manufacturers!

From who’s point of view? Not the people wearing it. The “lines” aren’t there for our edification, they’re there for men’s generally speaking.

If I’m not garbling the message in transmission (a clear possibility, I am so on drugs right now, and am going to have to sign off) from the point of view of the people who determine who gets a raise, who gets a corner office, who gets to marry a highly desirable mate, etc. So mostly but not exclusively males, with economic and social competition between females contributing to the bad situation. I mean, men don’t critique women’s clothing so much as they pay more attention to women dressed to capture the male gaze. But women point out perceived inadequacies in other women’s clothing (at least, in my workplace) all the time.

Again, I think I’m relating what was said to me by women, but I am currently somewhat compromised by neurology and prescriptions. Its been a rough day. I hope that’s not a cop out, but I not sure I can tell anymore.

Yes, that’s the point I’m trying to make here. Even an industry that we think is dominated by women, fashion, is really dominated by men and by the assumptions that this is a “mans” world and it’s all in service to that.

And I, a woman, am telling you that it’s not our fault that we don’t have pockets on our jeans. But you know, that’s just anecdotal.

Sorry to hear that. I too am struggling with stupid sinus bullshit, so I hope you feel better soon.

I have noticed that the guy jeans I buy have started having larger pockets. When phablet sized phones came out I couldn’t put one in my pocket and still sit down. Now I can. This is really great. I used to carry a medium timbuk2 bag around, but as all the things I used to carry got integrated into cell phones, I carried smaller and smaller bags. Just recently I pretty much stopped carrying a bag at all, and only use a very small tablet sized bag if I need to bring a notebook, water, or checkbook around with me. It’s a good time to be a man. Sorry.
