“Nasseri was born in 1945 in Soleiman, a part of Iran then under British jurisdiction, to an Iranian father and a British mother.”

How was he not considered a UK citizen?

Have you seen how the UK treats people who are entitled to citizenship but they don’t want to acknowledge?

His documents were apparently stolen at some point, and he couldn’t verify his ID.

There’s always a way to help someone; if you want to.

Signed affidavits from people- copies of records etc.

Argh, this one hurts… I played Second Edition* (on cassette, then vinyl) and Flowers of Romance (same) over, and over, and over during high school. It was a steady diet of those albums, the VU’s first two LPs, and Bowie. I regretted not learning about PiL until a couple of years after Keith had left/been fired – my gateway was the generic Album when that came out in early '86 (& which I later saw as more of a Material album that had John Lydon on vocals), but I worked my way back from there and, for me, Second Edition/Metal Box & Flowers of Romance were PiL. (I never worked my way back to First Issue.)

*In the mid-1990s I finally got Metal Box which had been re-released as a single CD in a metal can.

Years later, there was an interview with him on Perfect Sound Forever after which I actually managed to get hold of the guy. We emailed back and forth a couple of times and he sent me a CD-R with most of Murder Global on it. By then my ears had largely moved elsewhere but I was still really, really stoked.

I don’t know the details but who is classed as a British citizen/subject has always been insanely weird and pretty racist.

Yeah, I have a friend from Hong Kong who is a citizen of the UK, but does not have the right to live in the UK. His children are UK citizens, but he and his wife had to go to the UK and give birth there. Otherwise, their children would not have been eligible for citizenship.

Ah, the home office’s time-honoured “keeping out the riff-raff” guidelines.

It seems he did a lot to keep the situation going despite efforts to help:

Is there anything more British than refusing help from the French because they won’t acknowledge your Britishness? He should have gotten citizenship based on that alone

Any soap opera fans? I was a big General Hospital fan in the late 70s mostly because of Luke and Laura and the other nurse regulars. But I really got hooked when I had a couple week illness and we didn’t have cable.

Reading about him I found out he’s been married to Julie Kavner since 1976.

This interview was pretty off the rails and revealing.

I posted that Dan McCafferty video above, I got around to researching that whole Rock Meets Classic concert series/tours. It’s been going on since 2010. McCafferty bowed out of the tour in 2016 due to health issues from COPD.

My gosh what an amazing bunch of concerts. I don’t want to go off topic here but if you want to see some really classic stuff here’s a playlist with the likes of Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Lou Graham, Alice Cooper, Toto, and on and on. If you pause the video you can scroll through the different performances.

And one that brought back some serious memories. Manfred Mann’s For You.
