… aren’t deer an invasive species in Australia

They are, but compared to cattle, sheep, mice, rabbits, water buffalo, feral pigs, foxes, rats, and cats, they’re relatively harmless and not in plague numbers.

ETA Cane toads, Prickly Pear, Patterson’s Curse, Lantana, European wasps, carp, noisy mynas, and arguably brumbies (feral horses).

I don’t know that feral camels have been a net problem.

They would give the crocs a run for their money.

Which is what makes it so surprising…

Or maybe not…
