Gate reverb drums. Why most 80s music is unlistenable to me to this day.
I had heard before that he (Pagham) was using some version of gate reverb on XTC before Gabriel, before Collins…
Doesn’t sound that much like it to be honest.
How can you tell? I can barely hear the deer over the Collins. How I wish for the unedited video!
One of the things I taught my kids is that it is mandatory to crank up the volume right at that part.
Deer ain’t even close. That’s what’s wrong with the world, wildlife thinking they got talent and they’re a bunch of hacks. Then he’s got the nerve to strut around afterwards like he nailed it. SMDH.
Here’s the mini gated reverb documentary video that I think has been boinged before:
and to play “air drums”, i hope.
Any other drummers out there still scratching their heads and wondering why that fill is considered “classic” or even noteworthy?
…and struts off like a total boss.
That’s like saying film engineers wonder why the moment Dorothy steps into Oz and everything is color is special. It’s about the context in the work. It’s when color appears in the song.
king of the forest indeed - such majesty
It was like watching a model catch herself after stumbling on the catwalk.
Amen… I was so happy when the “make the drums sound like exploding trash cans” moment was over.
Take away the actual music and it would sound like a deer stumbling on a plastic play set. What rubbish.
I’m still trying to figure out why anyone thinks Phil Collins is noteworthy.
That’s partly why I can’t stop laughing at it.
