Degrees of Separation

I liked when he was in Happy Gilmore.

not really on topic, but Bettie Page, Dinah Shore, and the guy who wrote The Bat Poet are all alums of my high school.

Speaking of, in my day, Harmony Korine went to Hillsboro High over in Green Hills and several of my friends knew him, one quite well. The twins in the bathtub in Gummo used to sell me weed.

and Reese Witherspoon was attending the girl’s private school Harpeth Hall at that time, too. But I’m just bragging on Nashville, I’m not connected to her.

Oh god, if it’s meeting people and a quick chat while not at a con/convention/concert… I’ve met:

Bruce Campbell, Ron Jeremy, Whitfield Diffie, John Zorn’s brothers, and Gina Saputo (a friend from high school) is good friends with that schmuck on the left.

(I should really give Gina a call, she is an amazing person)

I’ve still got mad envy about you meeting Whit.

Oh gawd…

David Grisman, I helped him out with a bunch of mandolins. So that gets me to #2 for Grappelli and Carson.

And I helped out weird Al with accordions. So I have a #2 with… Everyone

I shook the hand of the King of the Zulus, and he winked at my wife. A number of people I know have met the Queen and/or the Duke of Edinburgh (my Mum gave the Queen some flowers when she (my Mum) was about 8). I’m the same age as Prince William and went to a private school, so the rugby team played against him at least once.

I’ve met a lot of interesting people in my life and a few famous people, but I can’t think of anyone who was both.

Get him to bring Firefly back! I’m 2 or 3 episodes from the end, so there’s still time!

And I know where Betty Crocker’s test kitchen was.

I never meet people from the internet. You all are so… weird.

I’ve met him. But I know lots of people that have.

My grandma did get collared by the Queen Mum for taking cuttings from her roses at Glamis once. Apparently they had a nice chat and then she was told that it was time she left.

My cousin was at St Andrews with Prince William. I don’t think she knew him though.

I don’t think anyone of note attended my high school, but for the last ten years I’ve lived across the street from John Muir High School in Pasadena, which has a fairly lengthy list of notable alumni. Most of ‘em seem to be NFL and NBA players and Olympians, but also such luminaries as Jackie Robinson, Octavia Butler, Rodney King, David Lee Roth, and Sirhan Sirhan. Even good ol’ Fred Phelps went there, back when it was a Junior College.

Okay, not all of 'em are luminaries.

I was momentarily confused. Being a native Southern Californian, the word “Glamis” brings different mental imagery to mind:

My 'shop skills aren’t up to envisioning the old bird mounted on a quad, carving up the dunes…

We used to be almost-neighbors; I lived for several years just a few blocks from Caltech.

My high school also had some notable alumni: Belinda Carlisle, Heather Locklear, and Jason Narvy - “Skull” in the original Power Rangers. He was one year behind me. I’ve got photos of him in drag.

I worked with the guy who played the F-22 pilot in Hulk - he’s not an actor, he’s a pilot who was brought in as a technical consultant, ended up in the film…

Worked as an extra on set for a few series such as American Crime season 2 last year, so…it hardly seems fair for this game.

Gotta say, I WAS giddy with excitement during the “fundraising” scene and being within arm’s reach of so many stars (dang, Andre is shorter than I thought).

If anybody’s seen it, am I visible in my burnt orange sweater?

I live in fly-over land. Always have, so my exposure to the famous is lesser. I still managed to have Cedric Yarbrough ride my school bus for my last year at highschool (probably the only famous-ish person to ever graduate from there). I have met Jeff Tweedy (after my housemate invited Uncle Tupelo to a houseparty we were going to after their concert). Same housemate managed to get Bill Clinton’s autograph when he visited campus (he was POTUS at the time, so I don’t how she did it). The Claw (old-time professional wrestler) was a substitute teacher at my high school. Had him show up for a week in Physics.
