Having tried to organize a student protest, it is harder than you would guess to get any meaningful number of kids to skip class for a cause and stick around for any type of demonstration. There is a pretty tremendous fear of reprisal. Most students know that they can get away with skipping some number of classes with minimal ill effects, but opposing school authority tends to be met harshly. Any time I skipped class, the punishment ranged from nothing to a detention. The protest was met with a three day suspension.
