It’s not uncommon while out at night around here to hear Fishers screeching out in the darkness, and they can be unnerving even when you know what they are:

They were pre-Columbian ghost-horses, which made the attack twice as frightening.

Lighten up, it’s a ghost whistle, not an Olduvai iPod.
