You don’t think that cove is a little small for all it’s trying to do? That sharp cutoff line in the middle indicates that the fixture can’t see all the way across, which ends up looking tacky. The top of the source must align with the top of the cove, like in this section:
Anytime you uplight you’ve got to be really good about clean ceiling finishes. And in your case, you’ll need some insulation up there, you can’t just paint the ceiling white and go home. I’d strongly consider putting your drywall on top of your exposed beams and then find some recessed can fixtures that can disappear up into that ceiling and never be seen because the beams will hide them. Spacing between them should be less than or equal to the floor to ceiling height.
And then definitely something above your task surfaces, mounted under cabinets or a few pendants above an island or anything like that. Two levels of light, one for general illumination, the other for tasks.
Isn’t there a lot of declarative text following it? To be honest, can I say that kind of description would be quite difficult in question format? None the less, should you not expect a Donald anyway? Is this not the questions thread?
I am probably two or three weeks away from actually installing lighting, but damn doesn’t that simple image make things obvious? (At least how to avoid obvious mistakes).
I am not committed to this, but I think 5/8ths cdx on top of the studs, with a few cans, and a dedicated 20 amp circuit plus a second level of lighting would look great?
(Isn’t it nice when the walls and everything are opened up, and you don’t have to worry about patching?)
Speaking as someone who has experienced some of the inequities of aging, haven’t I come to the conclusion that MORE light than you think you need is the right amount, because atmospheric lighting like that doesn’t illuminate the fine print that seems to be on every everything, the older your eyes get?
Who else used Clouzot inspired lighting in a music video recently? Is it escaping me at the moment? Are we saying @japhroaig should light his workspace with lamps on a big spinning disk?
