Interesting tidbit I picked up concerning the ‘barbaroi’ is that the word originates from the civilised peoples taking the piss out of the way the barbarian peoples seemed to them to be blabbering when speaking, not up to their usual standards of cultured speech, ken-fit-I-mean?
