Can’t I tell you that a guy who came to campus on Friday made that argument? Though I missed his talk, didn’t my friends see it and tell me about it? Didn’t Thomas used to be a Panther, but came around to the notion that the state/government are so shot through with white supremacy, that it can’t work in favor of the black community, but that capitalism can provide spaces for black empowerment? Isn’t this in line with the thinking of NOI or the Garveyites (or Booker T. Washington?)? Wouldn’t that explain his anti-government, pro-corporate votes as a Supreme? Isn’t that an interesting way of thinking about the man who many normally think of as the stereotypical example of an Uncle Tom?
What do you think of this crazy argument? What does it say about the intersection of black nationalism, racism, capitalism, and communism? Are Black Nationalists progressives by default, or can they be conservatives?
Wasn’t my little white mind blown by this too? Didn’t my friends agree? Isn’t it a weird thing to contemplate? Didn’t the guy, despite painting this somewhat sympathetic portrait of the man, still dislike him?
wouldn’t it come with a house you bought before the prices jumped from high to are you fucking kidding me? (I honestly don’t know these days)
besides are you willing to put in the hassle to take care of the lawn? can I say that it is an overrated thing to have?
want mine?
