I remember being at King’s Canyon and being warned not to leave food or even crumbs in your car. They had a picture of a car that had been opened by a bear: it apparently put its claws between the door and frame and peeled it open like a sardine can. They are incredibly strong. If a bear wants to open your back door and ransack your house, that is going to be very easy for them.

My favorite part of the story behind our flag is that the guy who made the first one could neither draw nor spell so it had a crudely corrected typo and a “bear” that looked more like a pig.

Hmm… well we do actually have a lot of “bears” then. Maybe not as many as in the Bay Area, but…
And we do have a lot of otters (had to look that one up), both the oceanic and club types.
