I’m guessing nobody consulted the kids in these cases?
The Max Plank Institute will go to miniscule lengths to solve this mystery.
Huh, I was wondering if they actually knew for a fact that these children were sacrificed, or if it might have just been a ceremonial water burial. The article doesn’t help much:
It’s not clear how or exactly why the children were sacrificed, but sacrificial methods in use at the time included decapitation and removal of the heart.
Given that both of those methods would have left marks on the bones, and if they had found such marks they surely would have said that at least some were sacrificed in particular ways at the site, this suggests to me that, at the very least, it’s just an assumption they were sacrificed at all (rather like the assumption it was all young women).
