So he was in a too small crate-if he had the proper size he would have been a lot more comfortable!
There’s a lot to laugh at on this post, especially that he put himself deliberately in too small of a container, but there is some value in this, kinda.
In the industry I used to work in, there was a single study that we (and our two other competitors in the market) cited constantly when we had shipping issues. This study was, and I am not making this up, about how a man very scientifically sent himself across the ocean in a shipping container. For Science!
This study was done in the 70’s or 80’s (don’t recall, was over 15 years ago since I was there) and was done to determine what happens to stuff when you ship it. What happened, and again, I am not making this up, is they took a shipping container, kitted it up with sensors, and then a guy sat in it while it was sent overseas. He had bathroom facilities of a sort, food, some sort of lights/battery setup, and some oxygen containers. It was a week or so trip and got tons of data that let us know around temperature/humidity changes, comments from the guy about how things moved around, and was a cornerstone of any response to regulatory bodies about “safe” transport was. Every time I had to cite this study, I could hardly believe it. Think of how many of these fall into the sea! Think of all the things that could go wrong!
“I don’t know why anyone would do this to their dogs.”
Proceeds to charge $6000 for an alternative.
Long term i doubt this endeavor will last, but it’s likely that there are well to do folks that would pay for this service for their pets. For me paying something equal to my own airfare for a pet would be a lot of money, and short of moving to another country i would rather drive with my cats.
I hope they at least slid a bowl of kibble in his crate
He was doggone tired after the flight
It was a dog day afternoon for him
At the end of the flight, when asked how it went, he said “Ruff!”
The idea that a service like this can exist in a world that’s struggling with climate change really does illustrate that society is messed up on several levels.
Lots of ways to get a pet from point A to B. Some better, some worse than others.
I don’t understand the problem with dogs on a regular flight. Sure, some clutch their peals and freak out seeing such a thing, but why not one or two airlines have dog friendly flights? I’ve seen people act like animals on a number of flights in the last few years, so it cant be a behavior issue. Again, before people start making up allergies as a reason, I said not every flight. “Fridays, dogs fly for 1/2 price fare!” type thing. Is it a FAA issue?
Maybe a concern about poorly behaved dogs and possible injuries to the dogs, staff or other passengers, not to mention pee and poop or puke issues from the dogs. The dogs could be required to be muzzled, but that would not do much for the excretions.
I agree, the canine reality would be worse. And yet, his point was that he already can’t understand why anyone would do this to their dogs. Whatever you think of the service he’s trying to provide, he’s not saying the status quo is a good thing.
