it’s true they had that with shrub, and at least for a few years with reagan. and that’s certainly true with all his judge picks, supreme court and otherwise.
i also think though his known ability to break and bankrupt things, his extreme and aggressive racism, and his general horrible personality were all well known. people expected him to bring all that to the whitehouse. i don’t think it could be claimed they thought he’d be passive
he’s a bully, and they wanted him to be bully in chief. oto, he just wants to feel powerful, so i think the hat has a 50/50 chance
And now here we go with this BS.
Former President Donald Trump said he had not called for the US Constitution to be cancelled, as Republican senators increasingly turned on him over the comment made in a social media post on Saturday.
“The Fake News is actually trying to convince the American People that I said I wanted to ‘terminate’ the Constitution. This is simply more DISINFORMATION & LIES,” Trump said on his Truth Social page on Monday.

I got to admit I’m one of those who thought that the most likely path of the Trump presidency was to be a crasser, dumber version of W.'s one, with Trump lazing around and taking all the credit for things, while others handled the actual job of administering.
Boy, was I wrong.
I think there were plenty of racists and/or fascists who knew exactly what they were buying, and many who liked his cruelty. I think there was also a wing that expected ”grownups” to be in the room, like Romney here, or Reince Prebus, believing they can be part of the team that shepherds TFG to making lucrative government decisions that benefit the right sorts (white, rich and cis).
He is demonstrably ignorant, and they believed they would be the brain trust that he would turn too. They didn’t research his personality enough.
Eta: There was also the pundit class and some Republicans who expected the importance of the office to impress him enough that he would break out of 70 years of past behavior and "pivot”.
“You can’t fool me. That’s a hat!”
You expect him to remember that and “Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.”???
His presidential portrait should be this gif, with those words superimposed over it.
The 2000 election has been shown to have been won by Gore, though, so he has dibs. Then Hillary, then Biden can finish the second half of his first term. Then we can reinstate the Constitution and have elections again.
Whenever there is a change in the form of government, there is anarchy during the change. At least, that’s what I learned from Sid Meier.
