Call it what you will but the margin of his defeat was way, way too close for comfort. He definitely did lose (thank god and Stacey Abrams!) but he lost Georgia by less than 0.25%, and lost Arizona by 0.31%. If he’d just received around 50,000 total additional votes spread around between Georgia, Arizona and Wisconsin we would be living in a very different world right now. I think it would serve us all well to remember just how close that was to coming to pass because we need to beat him again, as decisively as possible.

He’s so upset that he’ll only vote for Trump twice.

Because you are fascists who never cared about respecting the outcome of a fair and democratic election?

And because a useful idiot can have a useful idiot.

The Electoral College, combined with winner-take-all states, sets up all sorts of weird vulnerabilities and perverse incentives. The idea that a handful of people in one or two tipping point states should dramatically outweigh millions of voters elsewhere is vaguely absurd.

A constitutional amendment to eliminate it is probably a practical impossibility, but there’s some hope that something like the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact might stand a chance of rendering the Electoral College irrelevant. It’s already been set to trigger in states representing just shy of 40% of the EC electors, and is in consideration by the legislatures of states that represent over 9% of the EC electors. We’d have to get to 50% of the electors plus 1 for it to trigger.

FTFY.

But then, so much else about the US of A is also absurd…

Right – I’m just not buying that Fuentes and his reprehensible ilk were operating in good faith and genuinely concerned about election integrity. They’re just mad that he ripped off the fig leaf that gave them that tiny shred of mainstream respectability they craved.

For fascists, just like language is just a game where they get to say ridiculous nonsensical and disgusting things and get the centrists to legitimise them by making them a debate to be had, so is democracy a game. They will do any amount of lawyering to get the outcome they want but they have no actual interest in what the people expressly vote for.

Trump was absolutely thumped in the vote. Humiliatingly if they cared about what people voted for.

He was a whisker from the election.

Biden won the Electoral College vote by 306 to 232. He won the popular vote by almost 5 percentage points, which amounted to about 7 million votes. Sure, a couple of key states were very close, but I don’t think it’s inaccurate to say that Biden won by more than a whisker. Had Georgia gone the other way, Biden would still have won.

Trump was absolutely thumped in the vote.

Yep, twice. The round numbers I remember are by 3 million to Clinton and 7 million to Biden.

Yeah, I’m familiar with that effort and would love to see it come to pass, but that’s never going to happen without some red (or at least a lot of purple) states signing on, and given that the EC currently favors Republicans it’s hard to imagine getting red state legislators to support it unless they lose a couple of elections while winning the popular vote.

Anyway, we’re definitely stuck with this awful system for the current election.

Nah. He’s making deflection noises because he can see how it’s hopefully blowing, and doesn’t want to be holding the parcel when the music stops.

Yeah, this is not rage as having been lied to, it’s the sting of having his fellow conspirator drop the fiction.

WHAT?! Duh, he told me murder was legal so I went out murdering people and now he’s saying it isn’t legal? I feel so betrayed. I thought he was my moral compass, boy was I wrong!

The rest of the quote inclues “Why did anything bad happen if you’re just going to walk it all back?”

He’s not upset that he was duped into supporting a lie. He’s a fascist; supporting a lie never upsets them. They simply don’t think of truth in any meaningful way.

He’s upset that TFG isn’t sticking to his lie. He feels let down at this stage.

ETA: @RickMycroft , @chenille, have a carbonated bevvy from the machine out back…
