Donald Trump is ineligible to run for president, say conservative law professors

… the tankiest TV network I ever check in on is TeleSurEnglish, and they don’t seem to get into personalities like that

Check out the picture of him halfway down (debt cancellation is the story). Some things can be implied via their choices of images.

Unfortunately, this could conceivably also provide a thin rationale for red states to keep Biden off the balot for some bullshit, conspiracy-laden reason. I struggle to see this implemented without a conviction, or even an indictment, specifically involving insurrection. Otherwise, it just becomes “because i said so.”

We sent a special prosecutor, an impeachment, a second impeachment, and another special prosecutor. The flood waters are way past the roof and “conservatives” are floating down the raging current.

They have a funny way of showing it. Democrats gift wrapped a way to get rid of Trump at the end of 2019. Conservatives rejected that gift. Then they rewrapped the gift after brushing ash and blood off of it in January 2021, and conservatives again rejected it. And now, the Justice Department is delivering multiple gift-wrapped indictments, and conservatives are accusing Biden of trying to silence his political opponent.

‘Wishful thinking’ would be my guess.

I don’t watch Fox news, ever.

Yeah, exactly. He’s not what I would call senile, but I also wouldn’t want him in charge of a corporation, flying my airplane or doing my surgery. I’m sure we’ve all had relatives his age and have seen the decline that’s the unfortunate reality of human aging. Also, if a corporate CEO has a sharp decline there’s a practical process to remove him. The board can just do it. If a US president gets into a sharp decline (again, we’ve all seen it happen) there’s no effective way to take away his car keys.

Some people handle aging better than others. I think Bernie Sanders did much better than most for example. Biden even at his peak was never as sharp as Bernie. 300mil people… this is all we can find?

Again, if you can’t point to specific evidence why you think Biden is “mentally out of it” then kindly drop it.

He has speech mannerisms consistent with someone who has spent a lifetime controlling a stutter. That doesn’t mean he’s experiencing significant cognitive decline.

I find it hard to believe since you literally just regurgitated their talking points. No sane outlet is pushing the idea that he’s “mentally out of it”. Because it’s made up bullshit.

And none of those are his job, either. So he would not be doing it. Strawmen aren’t helping your point here. He’s not mentally out of it. That’s just objectively untrue.

His policies have been general effective, the economy is actually doing pretty well, he’s doing some of what he promised on a number of issues… He’s certainly not in my top 10 great presidents, but he’s not doing all that bad, in fact. Maybe that’s part of why you’re clinging to this narrative of him being in mental decline - because you’re not happy that he’s having some success as President.

They have two different political beliefs. Biden’s more centrist view has historically been driven in part by his constituency. He’s actually listened to the progressive wing of the party, and sought to bring in some of their preferred policies - not all by any stretch, but he’s got a big tent party to make happy. He needs to the progressives and the centrists.

He can’t because there really isn’t.

I don’t see any evidence of cognitive impairment. Older people who get senility or dementia are actually in the minority- lots of people remain mentally clear and alert through old age. Cognitive decline is not an inevitable part of elderly life for everybody.

I agree we need more people younger than their 60s in government, but that’s because we need better representation of modern day perspectives and attitudes. Biden could be more progressive, but I don’t see how anyone could think he’s not competent for the job or somehow mentally slipping. There’s just no indication of that.

Is there a more presentable monster?

The only Republican potential candidates who aren’t utter frothing eyerolling weirdoes are polling in the single digits among Republican voters.

If the Republican path to power is to swerve off the cliff and select a Democrat for their candidate, they may as well fold their tents now.

God, if only more CEOs were more like Joe Biden.

It is very wise that you don’t want somebody who isn’t a surgeon to perform any surgery on you.

Now I’m wondering if this is the ultimate twist in this f’d up timeline. If a convicted, guilty, or even in jail TFG can run for office, is it possible TFG could run for or even be, POTUS, after fleeing to non-extradition country?

And then preside from that non-extradition country?

Or what would happen if he’s in an extradition country? Could POTUS be extradited?

This thinking makes my head hurt. Glad I’m just a spectator!

  1. Have we seen it happen? It probably happened with Wilson, but none of us were alive then. It may have happened with Reagan, but that has not been proved. I believe he probably was in mental decline in the last couple of years of his Presidency, but we don’t actually know that.
  2. There absolutely is an effective way to take away his car keys if it becomes evident that he is in sharp decline from dementia or some other mental impairment. It’s called the 25th Amendment. Just because that clause of the 25th Amendment hasn’t yet been invoked doesn’t mean that it can’t be if it becomes necessary.

I feel like the answer to both of these is the same, which is that people are scared of starting an actual civil war, with guns on the streets. It may be the correct, legal thing to keep Trump or those members of Congress out, but absolutely no one is going to do it without a court actually sending people to jail.

If doing the right thing and following the law is going to cause a civil war now then delaying it certainly will make things worse.

As is ever the case, letting a toddler cause damage because you’re worried they will throw a tantrum is just going to make it worse when you do draw the line.
