In the context of the discussion I think it’s clear that what he meant is “Democrats are able to support another candidate if the situation calls for it because they believe in a set of principles, not just a specific candidate. The Republicans are unable to unify around anyone or anything beyond Donald Trump even when he engages in behavior that should be clearly disqualifying.”
