Donny & Marie Osmond sing Steely Dan's "Reelin' In The Years" (1978)

The band did. That lineage of dildoes is what they overtly got their name from.

“yacht rock” my pasty white ass

I used to read references to the show but had never actually seen Donny & Marie til now. I feel saddened.
That was utterly craptastic.
Can I have my money back?

I think everyone will find this a much more pleasurable Dan reinterpretation:

Every college student in the world knew this.

You put too much faith in the literacy of the average college student.

In my junior college days, I worked in the computer lab and one day, one of my co-workers brought her young daughter to work. The daughter’s name was Aja and she was named after the Steely Dan album. Aja knew that she was named after the album, but, of course, she had no idea about the original meaning of “Steely Dan.” Nor did her mother. I told her mother. I did not tell the daughter, but I made certain that she knew that I had told her mother. So, for the rest of her visit, I got to hear her repeatedly ask, “Mommy, what does Steely Dan mean?”

Well, every student in my college (in the 70s) knew this; it was one of those factoids that got passed down systematically from sophomore to freshman while Steely Dan was on the turntable.
