Given that the first hot-air balloon appeared ~200 years after the fort was built, I wouldn’t think that the fort’s 16th century builders would have anticipated anyone being able to see the fort from the air.

Appropriately enough I spent a lot of my scouting days at Fort George in Ontario.
As part of the “invading force” naturally. There was a fair amount of snickering about homo milk.

Looks like the designer didn’t quite get the concept of exposing the corners to enfilading fire. Those outer bastions needed a more acute angle rather than being parallel with the main walls.
